As you may already be aware, the story of kay me starts with founder and lead designer Junko Kemi’s search for stylish and functional business wear that was also comfortable and suitable for many situations. We’re very happy to say that our bags are no different – after extensive research, design and testing, we’re now ready to share our amazing bags with the world!

First in the line-up is our two-way business bag, which can be worn as a rucksack for commuting or carried as a handbag when meeting with clients.

This bag is specially designed to sit slightly higher on the back, alleviating extra pressure on the back.

Available in silver, taupe, navy, red, white, pink Tassel, and white Tassel.

Our PC bag can also be worn as a cross-by bag, or carried as a handbag.

Fitting laptops up to 13 inches as well as A4 papers, the inside features a special pocket to ensure computers and electronics are kept safe and secure.

Available in taupe, navy, red, white, silver, white Tassel and pink Tassel.

Next is our tote bag, also with different strap options for carrying.

A deceptively roomy design this bag also features a D-ring inside that attaches to our essentials case.

The perfect accompaniment to our business and PC bags, our Japanese customers love carrying these tote bags with matching and even contrasting larger kay me bags.

Available in red, taupe, navy, white, silver, white Tassel and pink Tassel.

pouch.jpg

Last but not least are our pouches in large and small sizes, and our essentials cases.

kay me pouches have an especially wide mouth to ensure that every item inside can be easily found, and our essentials case comes complete with a clip that attaches to any other kay me bag for safety and security.

Pouches available in large and small sizes, in gold, silver, white Tassel and pink Tassel.

Essentials cases available in taupe, navy, white, red, silver, white Tassel and pink Tassel.

All our bags and pouches are made from top-quality faux-leather, ensuring that no animals are harmed at any point of production. This faux-leather is soft and durable, and waterproof too. The straps for our bags contain a foam-like material, making them extra soft and comfortable to wear for long hours or when carrying heavy items.

Inside our pouches you’ll find an extra zipped pocket, and as well as a special laptop holder inside our PC bag and business, you’ll also see outer side pockets too.

Introducing… Design your own dress, with kay me

We’re very excited to announce our new special feature: it’s now possible to design your own custom dress on our international website!

After rolling out our new custom order feature in our Japanese stores and Japanese webshop, we’ve now brought the ability to design your own dress to our international customers around the world.

design1.jpg

So, how does it work?

After navigating to the “design your own dress” page, start by choosing from seven of our most popular dress patternsfor more on dress silhouettes, take a look at our recent blog. From our classic hourglass Venus Drape and fit-and-flare A-line cache-coeur to the universally flattering waist-gathered dress, there’s a style to suit every occasion.

Next, choose your size – please note that currently the design your own dress feature is only available in kay me standard sizing. Please feel free to enquire about sizing outside our current range.

design2.jpg

You can choose the length of your dress, too. Great for those with long torsos or shorter legs, or customers who wish for a dramatically different look to our standard patterns.

Then select your desired sleeve length, from sleeveless all the way through to long sleeves. With five sleeve length options, there’s plenty to choose from.

Finally, complete your custom dress by selecting the fabric. Currently available are five solid colours, including black, navy and pink, and eleven original kay me prints. Will you choose pretty florals, striking stripes or elegant polka dots? Our Japanese customers have told us this is the hardest step, narrowing down your final choice to just one combination. Of course, you can always order more than one dress…

If you’d like to change your mind, easily navigate back to previous pages and refine your selection.

After confirming your final choice, your dream dress with then be painstakingly handmade by the kay me atelier team working in Tokyo, and will be delivered to your door within three to four weeks.

Event Report: kay me talk show with andu amet’s Hiroko Samejima

IMG_3855

Long time kay me blog readers might remember our wonderful interview with andu amet founder Hiroko Samejima.

Hiroko founded andu amet in 2012, a high-end brand specialising in producing luxury handbags made in Ethiopia by locally trained and supported artisans, using quality Ethiopian sheepskin.

kay me stylist Yoko gives us a glimpse into our recent talk show held at our Shinjuku store and members club, with Hiroko in conversation with kay me founder Junko Kemi…

———-

Hi everyone, it’s Yoko from kay me Shinjuku!

Lat month we held a special talk event with andu amet founder Hiroko. Prior to the talk show, andu amet items were on show here at our Shinjuku store and guests could touch for themselves the super soft sheepskin and see all the lovely colours and designs. All the kay me stylists and I were so excited.

For the event, we prepared drinks and nibbles and Junko Kemi even specially selected which wine to serve!

As we don’t use a podium for our talks, the speaker and audience are closer, creating a more connected atmosphere.

Hiroko gave us great insight into working as a founder and manager in Ethiopia and shared a lot of advice.

We received a lot of questions, and time flew by!

As part of the audience, I felt so lucky to hear this talk session between two designs and founders.

I think many people are now considering entrepreneurship!

After the event, Hiroko and Junko both exchanged business cards and networked with the audience, and as a stylist I loved pairing kay me items with andu amet accessories.

Our next session with a new guest speaker will be at the end of March, and I can’t wait!

Until next time… Yoko.

Junko Kemi Visits India

kay me founder Junko Kemi recently visited India to source firsthand new items for our exclusive kay me Select line, bringing together the finest quality with the best handmade craftsmanship from around the world.

———-

india1.jpg

Hello, it’s Junko Kemi here…

Last month I visited Delhi in India for the first time. This time was purely for work, so I was only able to stay for one night. I was sad that I couldn’t see more, but my first impression was of all the people!

There was a long line at immigration control, and I read that India has a population of 1.3 billion compared with Japan’s 100 million, and is predicted to exceed 1.5 billion by 2100. When I visited Manila last year for an ASEAN meeting, I saw on the streets that the average age was 23 years old, while in Japan it’s 46!

india2.jpg

I also thought about many things while on this trip, including consumption tax (a big issue in Japan), recruitment, how to become a valuable human being, how to train people in organisations, and how we can change the structure of the labour market. These issues came to the top of my mind once again.

On this trip I brought with me some of my favourite kay me items, including our chiffon Monet print dress, new navy stripe dress and two kay me Select scarves – these are essential for surviving strong air conditioning!

I had a wonderful time in India even though it was a short trip, and I’m looking forward to sharing more of my adventures again.
