In the Media – Japan Times Newspaper

At the end of Fashion Week in October, the Japan Times newspaper published a wonderful interview with kay me founder Junko Kemi, focusing on her innovative approach to starting her own fashion business in Japan, as well as her personal motivation:

After the eve of the Great East Japan Earthquake I had a moment of reflection and realised that I wanted to have some kind of physical legacy, something like the kimono or antique tableware we pass from generation to generation. I decided that I wanted to make something beautiful, but with a social conscience.”

Time to Shine… with kay me

peplum-banner-blog

We love our new suit jackets and skirts, and we’re sure you’ll fall in love with the hand-crafted structural peplum that makes our peplum jacket so special.

The kay me design team went through several rounds of the design process to make the perfect peplum, with founder and brand leader Junko Kemi not resting until her dream of the ultimate peplum jacket was fulfilled. We’re sure you’ll agree that our peplum is pretty as well as practical, with hidden closures giving the elegant lines of the tailored jacket a lovely fit and flare, and a back pocket on the skirt for small essentials. The carefully placed darts and panels of the jacket emphasise the shape of the peplum, making this a stand-out addition to any workwear or special occasion wardrobe.

Take a closer look at the peplum jackets and skirts you’ll notice a subtle sheen to the fabric, as well as an understated leopard print pattern woven directly in. As with all kay me items, from knitwear to printed dresses to underdresses, this mini collection is fully machine washable and drip-dry, with no need for ironing.

The new kay me peplum suits are available in a pale pink (jacketskirt) and dark navy (jacketskirt), making them a great and versatile addition to your kay me wardrobe. Needless to say that these suits also follow the core kay me philosophy of being stretchy, elegant made in Japan and so comfortable to wear!

Introducing… Japan-made Knitwear, from kay me

With the leaves changing from green to gold and the nights getting cooler, it’s safe to say that autumn has arrived here in Tokyo. Hot on the heels of summer, autumn is a time for reflection before the upcoming winter season, and the perfect time to explore a new season of wardrobe additions.

New for autumn 2016 is kay me’s Japan-made knitwear, available as boleros, knit tops and fabulous dresses, the first part of our knitwear collection for autumn/winter with more coming soon.

The skirt features a soft thick knit, with an elasticated waist and looser top allowing you to style the dress in a number of ways. Simply add a kay me jacket and you’re ready for work in an instant!

Our Milan Rib knit dresses in pink, grey and black are an excellent choice for any casual occasion. The v-neck and long sleeves make them perfect for laying with other knit items, and all three dresses feature handy pockets that are great for stashing small essential items such as train tickets, mobile phones and keys.

Made from a specially selected wool and acrylic blend, our knit dresses are soft, study and fully machine washable.

Boleros and Tops

Our signature cache-coeur style gets a knit makeover as versatile off-white and grey tops, with deep crossover drapes that create an incredibly flattering figure. Made from New Zealand merino wool and handmade here in Japan, these cache-coeur knit tops are so soft and cosy you’ll be glad to see the cold weather!

For the new autumn winter season, kay me founder and lead designer Junko Kemi wanted to explore an edgy side to the feminine shapes and cuts of the dresses we adore at kay me. Inspired by exotic animals, our new mini-collection embraces a seductive aesthetic, while still maintaining the instant elegance that kay me is known and loved for.

Just as stunning from far away as close up, our Cherry Python dress demands attention. A delicate lace style pattern in pinks, greys and golds becomes a snake-like print with a trick of the eye. The beautiful range of tones in this dress are perfect for the autumn season and make this dress easy to pair with other colours including black, grey and even metallics.

A bold design that is striking in its simplicity, the cache-coeur style and flared skirt of this dress keep the silhouette feminine and flowing for daily wear. Keep things simple with neutral tones, or play up your dramatic side by emphasising the burnt orange colour.
