Introducing… The New Tweed, from kay me

Tweed fabric has its roots firmly in the wild Scottish highlands, but how can you update a traditional material for the modern world?

Here at kay me HQ in Tokyo, we’ve found the perfect way to celebrate beautiful traditional tweeds in a way that works for busy city life. Introducing the new tweed: It’s light, it’s stretchy and it’s machine washable – of course it’s kay me!

kay me founder and lead designer Junko Kemi wanted to capture how sentimental tweed makes us feel and celebrate the wonderful British history of the fabric, as well as offering a practical solution to stiff and itchy old-fashioned woollen weaves.

Enter kay me’s tweed: printed using our specialist artisan techniques in Tokyo on beautifully textured cloth, this is tweed for a new generation. As with all kay me items, everything is machine washable, non-iron, non-crease and incredibly stretchy and soft. We only use the highest quality Japanese materials, both natural and man-made, in order to ensure that every kay me piece lives up to the highest standards of quality production and longevity.

kay me tweed is available in two beautiful colours:

Tweed Stretch Bolero and Dress in Mocha Pink

Eat your heart out, Paris! Pretty in pink, and possibly the most perfect outfit for strolling around the French capital, our mocha pink tweed has been a big hit in Tokyo this season. The bolero features a standing notched collar with pale pink lining throughout, and bracelet-length sleeves that can be rolled up for instant chic. Pair the dress with black and white accessories – croissants not included.

Tweed Stretch Bolero and Dress in Navy

Classic colours get a boost for 2016 with our lovely navy tweed jacket and dress, a great match together or as separates with white, plain navy, black and even grey. The dress is V-neck with a structured style, back zip and two side pockets that are the ideal size for stashing small-size essentials such as a mobile phone or compact mirror. Enjoy a meal at a cafe, brunch on the lawn and of course work at the office in style.
