Get ready to explore lush vegetation and intricate flower patterns with our latest mini-collection inspired by all things botanical. botanicalprints

Our botanical mini-collection has two main prints: Blue Mucha – a bold and striking royal blue and black design with various baroque-style flowers against a latticework pattern, and Y-genic, a modern realistic style print with vivid red tropical flowers contrasted with green leaves on a black background.

Blue Mucha is available in both wrap dress and waist-gathered style, with Y-genic as a wrap dress. Both stylish wrap dresses feature bracelet-length sleeves, and utilise slightly heavier fabric for the wrap skirt creating a subtly more defined silhouette, as well as our special hidden tab and button to keep you safe and secure in your wrap dress. Our lovely waist-gathered dress has elbow-length sleeves and a moderately flared hem to take full advantage of the original print.

Pair these dresses with a simple chic kay me jacket for effortless office style, and with our stretch denim jacket or washable faux-leather jacket for weekend wear with a difference.

Celebrate Autumn in Japan, with kay me

Ask any Japanese person what they love about their country and one of the top answers is guaranteed to be Japan’s four seasons – while this may not sound unique to many of us around the world, Japan does boast very distinct seasons which have in turn been a great influence on traditional culture.

From cuisine to written greetings to poetry, nature inspires at every turn, including here at kay me HQ in Tokyo…

Autumn leaves

leaves2.jpg

The highlight of the fall season has to be the stunning autumn leaves in red, gold and orange hues that cover mountainsides and carpet the streets – always a must-see for both residents and visitors alike. Take colour cues from the leaves with our vibrant drape dress in orange, and wrap up in our new tweed mini-collection – just as soft and stretchy as all kay me clothing, now in a timeless tweed look.

Moon viewing

moon.jpg

As part of her BBC London radio interview, kay me founder Junko Kemi explained the story behind one of our most iconic dresses, Otsukimi purple: moon viewing is a traditional Japanese autumn cultural activity, best enjoyed with friends and family and some delicious dango (rice-flour dumplings). Keep the kimono spirit alive with our 100% silk Toki Michelle dress, a wonderful luxury addition to any wardrobe that can be machine washed at home with no fuss.

Creative cuisine

food

Nashi (Asian pear), sweet potato, chestnuts… there’s a lot to love about autumnal food in Japan too. Go for rich earthy tones with our signature super flattering cache-coeur dress in violet and perfect dress in olive to bring out autumn’s darker and bolder colour palette. If you’re in need of a refresher on how to perfectly tie our wrap and cache-coeur dresses, look no further than our handy video guide.

Introducing… The New Tweed, from kay me

tweedblogimg

Tweed fabric has its roots firmly in the wild Scottish highlands, but how can you update a traditional material for the modern world?

Here at kay me HQ in Tokyo, we’ve found the perfect way to celebrate beautiful traditional tweeds in a way that works for busy city life. Introducing the new tweed: It’s light, it’s stretchy and it’s machine washable – of course it’s kay me!

kay me founder and lead designer Junko Kemi wanted to capture how sentimental tweed makes us feel and celebrate the wonderful British history of the fabric, as well as offering a practical solution to stiff and itchy old-fashioned woollen weaves.

Enter kay me’s tweed: printed using our specialist artisan techniques in Tokyo on beautifully textured cloth, this is tweed for a new generation. As with all kay me items, everything is machine washable, non-iron, non-crease and incredibly stretchy and soft. We only use the highest quality Japanese materials, both natural and man-made, in order to ensure that every kay me piece lives up to the highest standards of quality production and longevity.

kay me tweed is available in two beautiful colours:

Tweed Stretch Bolero and Dress in Mocha Pink

Eat your heart out, Paris! Pretty in pink, and possibly the most perfect outfit for strolling around the French capital, our mocha pink tweed has been a big hit in Tokyo this season. The bolero features a standing notched collar with pale pink lining throughout, and bracelet-length sleeves that can be rolled up for instant chic. Pair the dress with black and white accessories – croissants not included.

Tweed Stretch Bolero and Dress in Navy

Classic colours get a boost for 2016 with our lovely navy tweed jacket and dress, a great match together or as separates with white, plain navy, black and even grey. The dress is V-neck with a structured style, back zip and two side pockets that are the ideal size for stashing small-size essentials such as a mobile phone or compact mirror. Enjoy a meal at a cafe, brunch on the lawn and of course work at the office in style.

Ai Michelle

Delicate white flowers bloom on a dark teal background on our waist-gathered Ai Michelle dress, with just the right amount of petals picked out in a contrasting shade of orange-red. Highlight this lovely detail with a pair of red shoes (and lipstick to match!), or create a bright and timeless look with a white jacket and accessories.

aka-michelleblog.jpg

Aka Michelle

Bringing warmth to any day, come rain or shine, the beautiful Aka Michelle dress is certain to become a holiday favourite. Handmade gathers at the waist and the gently flared skirt compliment the flowing orange and white florals and the soft grey of the print background. Add metallics for a modern city style, or neutral tones for the ultimate in glamour.

toki-michelleblog.jpg

Toki Michelle

Taking direct inspiration from real antique kimono patterns, Toki Michelle is available in 100% silk jersey in our cache-coeur style. Our patented luxury easy-care fabrics are the height of sophistication, reinforced by the rich floral pattern on pink background. Take advantage of the cache-coeur cut and tie the ribbon any way you like – our kay me stylist recommends trying out a Japan-influenced obi-belt look.

edo-murasakiblog.jpg

Edo Murasaki

A favourite of Junko Kemi, our Edo Murasaki 100% silk dress is influenced by traditional Japanese colours and patterns dating from the Edo era (1603 – 1868) – the geometric design is offset by the mauve mallow flowers placed specially to echo the print position on kimono.
Junko also wore this dress to accept the first place in the Development Bank of Japan’s Women Entrepreneur Center awards – it’s become a hit in our Japanese stores!

tokiwa-midoriblog.jpg

Tokiwa Midori

Our Tokiwa Midori dress is available in 100% silk in kay me’s stunning asymmetrical gathered style, highlighting the pattern placement. Orange and teal leaves fan out against the soft drapes and bold graphics of this design, based on authentic imagery used in Japan for auspicious occasions. Add statement shoes to take this dress effortlessly from day to night.
